Topic: Farm to Table – Why is it Important? And what is slow food anyway?

Presented by Dr. Ed Crowley and Lance Green of Slow Food SEMO

Dr. Crowley is a native Missourian who grew up on large Dairy and Beef operation in Southwest Missouri. He spent his career in the high tech industry as both an entrepreneur in five high tech companies (including one which went public on the New York Exchange), as well as an intrapreneur for global Fortune 500 tech firms including Texas Instruments and Lexmark. He has worked in over 50 countries globally, including extensive work in Japan, Southeast Asia and Europe. His undergraduate degree is in Agricultural Economics with a Computer Science emphasis form the University of Missouri – Columbia, his MBA is from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and his Doctorate is from the University of Manchester in England. In 2020 he started his ‘second’ career as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University.

In addition to his role at the University, Dr. Crowley continues to be involved in agriculture both in his research and in his farm located in Glenallen Missouri. He is also Vice Chair of the Slow Food SEMO chapter. Dr. Crowley is also an Executive Strategy Advisor for IBM’s Global Electronics Business Unit and is Chairman of Virtulytix Inc., a technology consulting and analytics development firm.

Lance has been involved with small farm food production for 30+ years as both a hobby and commercially, and currently lives in Patton, Missouri with his family on a small-scale permaculture farm. He and his family started and run Spanish Street Farmacy, a restaurant and fresh market specializing in local healthy foods in downtown Cape Girardeau
